Cody Coughlin has taken a slightly different path than the rest of his famous racing family, choosing to ply his trade on circle tracks rather than dragstrips, as his father, grandfather, uncles and cousins did. But that hasn’t stopped him from continuing the Coughlin tradition of winning races and championships in grand style, something he’s done with regularity since donning his first firesuit and helmet as a teenager.

In fact, Cody can be credited with expanding the exposure and recognition of his family’s 60-year-old business — JEGS High Performance — to a completely different audience of racers and fans during his successful career.

It started in Quarter-Midget, where Cody quickly learned the nuances of his chosen sport, winning five races and a pair of championships in the Generation Next Quarter-Midget Series and the Heavy Modified class.

That early success embolden Cody to transfer to the bigger machines of the ASA Late Model Series, which in turn led to many years of double-duty in the ARCA/CRA Super Series sponsored by JEGS and the JEGS/CRA All Stars Tour presented by Chevrolet Performance.

Cody’s time in the two Champion Racing Association (CRA) series, which started in 2011 when he was named the Howie Lettow Rookie of the Year, have been his most fruitful with three more championships highlighting an enviable litany of victories and records.

It didn’t take long for Cody to make a name for himself, winning his first major title with the 2013 JEGS/CRA All Stars Tour championship. Three years later he topped his accomplishment by winning a second JEGS/CRA All Stars Tour championship along with his first ARCA/CRA Super Series title, becoming the first driver in history to earn both crowns in the same year.

Cody’s impressive statistics have piled up ever since. He leads the JEGS/CRA All Stars Tour in championships (three), career starts (59) and top-five finishes (27). Combining the two CRA series, Cody has 14 victories, seven fast qualifiers, 14 front-row starts, 54 top-five finishes, 76 top-10 finishes, 1,056 laps led, and a grand total of 12,739 laps of racing.

Along the way, Cody raced a handful of events for NASCAR legends Joe Gibbs and Kyle Busch in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, where, not surprisingly, he finished well.

Like the rest of his family, Cody follows an exhaustive work schedule when he’s away from the racetrack. These days, he’s heavily involved with various real estate ventures in his home base of Columbus, Ohio.
